February 2024

We ran a competition during February this year, the best meal made with care for one of our service users.  The delicacies were photographed, and the entries judged by the followers on our Facebook page.

We have a lively WhatsApp group to keep all of our care team connected and their posts of delicious breakfasts, tasty lunches and fancy suppers came rolling in. One of our care team, Caitlin, who is known for her baked goods, made a lemon drizzle cake and the moist zingy sponge won our competition with a landslide vote.

Our care visits vary in time and a big part of the call can be supporting our service users with meals.  This can include shopping for essentials, putting a food delivery away, support with microwave meals and making hot food with the ingredients they have at home. The plan is always to identify what help a person wants and schedule our call so we can make it happen.

Some of our team members have a passion for cooking; Liam and Jessica love to cook and make it look so easy, other team members need support with their kitchen confidence and are over the moon when they get it right.

Food safety level one and two are part of the training we give to the whole team, and we are big on recycling. Plastics are washed and put in the right bags, and food bins are checked so they don’t smell or get yucky overnight. We treat all kitchens as we would our own, and the Mums on the team make sure our apprentices have basic kitchen skills to take to university when they leave us. We also have training for service users who have a SALT ( speech and Language Therapist)  assessment, who are diabetic and we support all special dietary requirements.
